FAQs for Donors

  • What is Giving Tuesday?

Giving Tuesday brings charities, families, businesses, and people from around the shore together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity. Giving Tuesday is an online giving event that provides nonprofits the opportunity to inspire the community. Celebrate the holiday season with generosity by visiting our one-stop donation shop online and give to your favorite area nonprofits all in one convenient place. Join us on Dec. 3rd as we support nonprofits in Wicomico, Worcester, and Somerset Counties.

  • Are participants chosen by CFES?

The Community Foundation does not select or directly endorse the nonprofits who participate in this campaign. The campaign is open to all nonprofits serving residents of Wicomico, Worcester, and Somerset counties. Only those that are in good standing with the IRS and/or have a fiscal sponsor are eligible.

  • How do I know the participating nonprofits are valid and/or actively doing work on the Lower Shore?

During nonprofit registration, our staff verifies that the organizations who register for Giving Tuesday are eligible tax-exempt organizations serving residents of Wicomico, Worcester, and Somerset counties.

  • Who can donate?

Anyone can donate! You may use apple pay, google pay, credit card, or electronic check to give through the donation website.

  • When can I donate?

Live donations occur on Giving Tuesday (December 3rd). However, you can donate early, starting November 25th. Your donation will be processed the day it is entered, and you will receive your receipt via e-mail that day. However, donations will not show on the homepage ticker until December 3rd.

  • What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, AmEx) as well as echeck/ACH, Google Pay (for Android users), and Apple Pay (for Apple users). All of these payment methods are easily accessible from the donations cart during the checkout process.

  • Are gifts tax deductible?

All donations are tax-deductible and irrevocable and will be for the unrestricted use of your chosen charity.

  • Will I receive a tax receipt?

Yes. You will receive an electronic receipt for your gift(s) via email. You can request a copy of this receipt at any time through the "Resend Your Shore Gives More Receipt" function at the bottom of the www.shoregivesmore.org home page.

  • Is there a minimum or maximum gift amount?

There is a minimum gift amount of $10. There is no maximum gift!

  • Can I give to multiple organizations?

Yes! Simply build a shopping cart with multiple donations. When you check out, your order will be totaled, and your gifts will be distributed as you have designated.

  • Can I use my CFES Donor Advised Fund to donate?

YES! However, there is a cut-off time of noon on Giving Tuesday for DAF requests. This allows our staff the time to review and process these requests. DAF gifts can also be made during early giving (the week before Giving Tuesday). You should communicate through your normal DAF request process. DAF's are entered manually into the Giving Tuesday software by CFES staff and do not count towards Giving Tuesday prizes. For assistance with DAF requests, you may contact our Program Officer, Shelbie Thompson, at sthompson@cfes.org.

  • Can I schedule recurring donations?

Unfortunately, we do not offer recurring donation features at this time. We encourage you to visit your favorite nonprofit's website to learn more about their own gift acceptance policies.

  • Can I submit a donation by check directly to CFES?

We are not accepting donations outside of the online portal this year.

  • How can I request a refund if I have made an error?

You may request a refund by contacting Sharon Dickson, VP of Community Investment, at sdickson@cfes.org on the day of Giving Tuesday (December 3rd). No refund requests will be accepted after Giving Tuesday. If you accidentally make a gift to the wrong organization or make a duplicate gift by mistake, please contact us as soon as possible to make the adjustment. After December 3, 2024, all gifts made during the Giving Day period are considered final and non-refundable unless otherwise directed by the merchant processing company. Refunds can take 7-10 business days to process after settling.

  • Can I make a donation through a stock transfer?

We are no longer accepting stock transfer gifts through the Shore Gives More campaign. Please contact your nonprofit partner directly to arrange a stock transfer.

  • Who do I contact for technical assistance?
