The Haitian Development Center of Delmarva (HDCD) means a lot to me and will always have a special place in my heart. Growing up, the sense of Haitian pride was low compared to my pride today due to societal perceptions of Haiti. I visited Haiti in 2014 for my grandmother's funeral. In the three weeks that I spent there I fell in love Haiti and my people. I vowed to work to doing my part to advance the cause of maternal and child health in Haiti.
I started volunteering with HDCD during COVID-19 to help with education and vaccine hesitancy. I created the "Bright Futures" after school program and have helped create health education campaigns. In the future, I hope to inegrate programs about maternal health including how CHWs can support pregnancy and postpartum as well as doulas and lactation counselors.
