Humane Society of Somerset County MD

About this Organization

We are an all a volunteer group ranging in age from 18- 80 years old each of us dedicated and committed to the mission of the Humane Society. We prevent cruelty to animals, eliminate pet overpopulation, and enhance the lives of all animals that come into our care. We provide free and low-cost spay neuter and vaccinations to low-income families, now averaging 600 cats per year. We rescue injured cats and dogs and find homes for abandoned animals. We help with emergency veterinary care for low-income families and relocate nuisance cats to our cat sanctuary. We operate a network of foster families for nursing mothers and kittens. We operate a small No kill shelter and hospital for sick animals. We manage a 300 cat sanctuary for homeless cats. Our goal is to reduce the overall homeless and abandoned animal population in a humane way and reduce the animal and human suffering that prevails in this situation. We provide education on humane animal treatment to improve animal welfare. We are dedicated to the protection of all animals from abuse and neglect. We are now and continue to be a no-kill organization and a model for others to follow. Many of the animals who find their way to us have been abandoned and let down by humans multiple times. Our goal and mission is to save them by caring for and finding them good, loving homes. Importantly, we have now added a Pet Food Pantry for local disadvantaged residents. Failure is not an option for our society.
