University of Maryland Eastern Shore Foundation

About this Organization

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore is a student-centered, doctoral research degree-granting university known for its nationally accredited undergraduate and graduate programs, applied research, and highly valued graduates. UMES is ranked 16th among the nation's top 20 Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The university continues to provide individuals, including first generation college students, access to a learning environment that fosters multicultural diversity, academic success, and intellectual and social growth. This prepares graduates to address challenges in a global knowledge-based economy, while maintaining its commitment to meeting the workforce and economic development needs of the Eastern Shore, the state, the nation and the world. UMES students are being trained in eight health professions that address the shocking disparities in the nation's health care system. Student academic achievement is demonstrated by consistent high performance on national certification exams, such as the Praxis II Teacher Certification Exam and the North American Pharmacy Licensure Exam (NAPLEX). Our 2018 doctor of pharmacy graduates ranked highest in the state with the first-time pass rate of 96 percent. Additionally, UMES is home to Maryland's only Aviation Science Program and one of the only 18 PGA Golf Management Programs: the only HBCU to offer this degree in the United States.
