Lyme Disease Association of Delmarva, Inc.

About this Organization

We have held MONTHLY MEETINGS for the public, eleven months a year, since 2003. Those meetings can range in size from 25 to over 75 people, depending on the topic and speaker, or depending upon the weather. (Monthly meetings were suspended to protect attendees against COVID. ) We have hosted five MEDICAL CONFERENCES, some with CMEs. These conferences provide educational opportunities on tick-borne diseases (TBD's) for physicians, NP's, PA's, nurses, and mental health providers. (TBD's can greatly affect mental health, and can create a whole range if mental illnesses.) Our executive director, Marilyn Williams, attends national conferences each year in order to stay abreast of the latest discoveries in TBD diagnosis and treatments. We use the information she gathers to determine what to present to the public and to select speakers for our medical conferences. The medical conferences we have held are very highly rated by those who attend, so we feel these efforts are money well-spent. TBD's have spread to all fifty states, and the level of ticks, and their infection with multiple pathogens is on the rise. The Centers for Disease Control now admits that at least 300,000 people each year contract an infection with Lyme disease, and MD, DE & VA remain in the top 13 states with the highest number of cases. One of the most important functions of our organization is that people open their minds to the possibility that their years of illness may be caused by tick-borne diseases, so they seek evaluation to determine that an infection is the underlying cause of their rheumatologic, neurological, or psychiatric condition.
