For The Shore Gives More #GivingTuesday campaign, the OCDC is raising funds to provide workforce housing for our seasonal public safety staff and first responders. The project seeks to purchase furniture and appliances for new workforce housing units being built above the new Ocean City Police Department substation on Somerset Street in Ocean City. Though the Town of Ocean City is moving away from seasonal police officers and towards a full-time police force, there are many other public safety staff and first responders who need seasonal housing to serve the public each summer. THE NEW SUBSTATION The Town of Ocean City and the Ocean City Development Corporation have partnered to build a three-story police substation on the corner of South Baltimore Avenue and Somerset Street. The first floor includes public restrooms and bicycle storage for the police department's bike patrol, the second floor features office space, and the third floor provides workforce housing for seasonal public safety staff and other first responders. We are excited to announce that the groundbreaking for this project has already taken place, and the facility is currently under construction! THE REASON FOR FUNDRAISING Funding for the construction of this facility has already been secured by the Town of Ocean City and the OCDC, so NONE of the money raised through this Shore Gives More campaign will go towards building costs. Unfortunately, no funding exists to furnish the workforce housing units. The OCDC is committed to making sure our brave men and women in uniform have quality, affordable housing while serving our community. That is why 100% of the proceeds received through this campaign will go towards purchasing furniture and appliances for workforce housing at the Ocean City Police Department Downtown Substation.
