Coastal Hospice is not a single service; rather it is a continuum of care for those with life limiting illnesses, provided by a team of compassionate professionals and volunteers. Coastal Hospice serves patients in all four lower counties: Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset and Dorchester. People often don't realize that our care can begin soon after diagnosis. Coastal Compass is often the entry point, and as an illness progresses patients transition to palliative care which can be provided in the hospital, at nursing homes and through outpatient care. Our best-known program is Home Hospice which serves more than 200 people each week. Doctors, nurses and nursing aides, volunteers, music therapists, social workers, spiritual counselors and bereavement support staff work together to provide the best quality of life possible. When difficulties occur or life intervenes, Coastal Hospice at the Lake offers round-the-clock care. Until 2019, the Lower Shore lacked a critical piece of the hospice care continuum - a residential hospice home, after years of planning and fundraising, the Macky & Pam Stansell House opened in Ocean Pines. In addition to our service programs we also offer grief support, pediatric care and a "We Honor Veterans" program.
