Diakonia has been providing homeless solutions for over 50 years. It started in the current location as an emergency shelter and food pantry for the homeless in the Ocean City area and then expanded to be the only comprehensive provider serving the Tri-county area of the Lower Eastern Shore of Md. Diakonia provides a full-range of homeless services; a mobile "rapid response" outreach team, coordinated assessment and substance abuse prevention/intervention, emergency shelter with intensive case management, emergency food pantry, food stamp information/application assistance, housing navigation, landlord engagement, homeless prevention, rental and utility assistance and rapid rehousing for homeless men, women, families and veterans services for veterans and their families. Diakonia also opened a Thrift store 15 years ago that provides low-income persons/families with discounted household items, furniture, clothing, shoes, and provides vouchers for our clients and clients with our agency partners.
