Furnace Town Foundation Inc.

About this Organization

Furnace Town Historic Site is an important resource for the Lower Shore community. At Furnace Town, visitors can explore the cultural and economic history of the Lower Shore and gain an understanding of the history of the Lower Shore and how residents lived and worked in the 19th and early 20th centuries. There is no similar site. Typically, Furnace Town hosts hundreds of school children during the school year. Visits to Furnace Town are a part of the curriculum of many of our local school districts. Furnace Town typically hosts many cultural events during the year. In addition to the historic exhibits, Furnace Town is part of the Nassawango Creek Preserve and is home to many native plants and animal species. Environmental significance is one of our under-appreciated characteristics. We are home to a Bald Cypress Swamp. As Furnace Town works to recover from the pandemic impact, we are refreshing our exhibits and improving our educational programing.
