It Takes a Village to Help Our Children, Inc. a non-profit 501(c) 3, has been working in the Crisfield community for 18 years serving more than 200 children a year. We provide a place of belonging, help them discover their gifts and talents, and to find their place in the world. We are the only youth program in our community open Monday through Friday all year long, standing in the gap to create a safe haven for our 'at risk' children. Until 2012 we were housed in a former Elementary School building which was demolished due to damage from Hurricane Sandy. Since then, we have been operating from a small former bank building which is primarily open space, making it difficult for students to focus on their lessons. The 3100 sq. ft. building is not large enough to serve all the children, and there is no outdoor play area, forcing our children to play in the parking lot next to the main road. Somerset County and the City of Crisfield donated 3.375 acres of land for our new 8400 sq. ft. building which will have lots of indoor space for hands on learning, STEAM activities, and all the children waiting to get into our programs.There will be lots of outdoor space for recreation to combat Somerset's high obesity rate. We have already raised $2.5 Million dollars through grants and community donations. We need your help to raise the remaining funds to complete the new building for our children.
