SHORE UP! Inc. is a community action agency established in 1965 and serves individuals and families in Somerset, Wicomico, Worcester, Dorchester, Talbot, Kent, and Queen Anne's counties. The agency offers a wide range of services in the areas of employment, education, housing, family support, and health. SHORE UP! offers Head Start and Early Head Start programs for children birth to age 5. A Foster Grandparent Program is comprised of seniors 55 and up who work with Early Head Start and Head Start children with special needs. SHORE UP! also offers the necessary skills training for individuals to gain employment paying a livable wage. GED Prep courses and certifications to become a Certified Nursing Assistant or to get a Commercial Driver's License can be obtained by working through the agency's Two Generation/Whole Family Approach Program. SHORE UP! also offers financial literacy education and housing counseling services. Those who need assistance paying current or delinquent utility bills and are eligible may receive support though our Energy Assistance Program, and the Weatherization Program will increase the energy efficiency of homes by stopping heat loss and making heating systems more efficient. SHORE UP! also operates subsidized housing units in Somerset County. Loretta Village serves senior citizens and families. Families with an income of $55,000 or less annually may also get free tax preparation services at SHORE UP! The Shady Pines Center is also operated by SHORE UP! Those 16 and up with disabilities and the elderly have a safe, friendly place to spend the day with well-trained and caring staff. Trained staff also work with homebound, chronically ill or disabled clients in the Residential Services Program. Light housekeeping, respite care and daily grooming are how these individuals receive assistance.
