Somerset County Historical Society

About this Organization

Somerset County Historical Society is raising funds for a free educational & community programming at Teackle Mansion, to ensure accessibility and inclusivity. Each year, we offer FREE curriculum-based tours for ALL 4th graders in Somerset County. Additionally, we offer a FREE one-week summer camp for students interested in learning more about local history. Support raised through Shore Gives More helps to fund these youth programs. The historic home will be open to the public, at no cost, offering a glimpse into the early 1800s. Special exhibits include period clothing, a mourning locket, antiquarian books, and more. Guided tours & activities are free to members of the public. Funds raised through Giving Tuesday will also support the installation of outdoor lighting, ensuring visitor safety at the museum. The Society utilizes its resources, including Teackle Mansion, Sarah Martin Done House, Somerset Choice Station, and its collections, along with the historical resources of the county, as catalysts to create personal connections to the past by: 1) Collecting, preserving, and documenting the county's historical assets; 2) Providing a variety of stimulating educational programs and initiatives; and, 3) Encouraging others to actively participate in these endeavors.
