Somerset Lynching Memorial Project-Truth & Reconciliation

About this Organization

Somerset Lynching Memorial Project-Truth & Reconciliation is raising funds to be used toward community meetings and programs, including a new Black History Bus Tour. We are also working toward the erection of historical markers acknowledging the four documented racial terror lynchings which occurred in Somerset County, including Isaac Kemp (Princess Anne, 1894), William Andrews (Princess Anne, 1897), James Reed (Crisfield, 1907), and George Armwood (Princess Anne, 1933). The Somerset Lynching Memorial Project-Truth and Reconciliation Committee is an all-volunteer organization that works to advance the cause of reconciliation in our Somerset County, Maryland by documenting the history of racial terror lynchings, advocating for public acknowledgement of these murders and working to honor and dignify the lives of the victims. We work closely with the statewide Maryland Lynching Memorial Project, a registered 501c3 organization, and the Maryland Lynching Truth and Reconciliation Commission, established by MD House Bill 307 and authorized by Governor Larry Hogan, April 2019.
